The unblogged Haus of Gloi Valentine's 2012 collection

Unless you're a fairly recent reader of this blog, you probably know that when it comes to bodycare, Haus of Gloi is one brand that I can't rate highly enough.

So, naturally, when I got the alert that they were coming out with a Valentine's release for 2012, I knew I had to check it out! Let's take a closer look at my little haulage, shall we?

This time I only picked the three newer scents of the collection: Odette, Spring Tonic #1 and Spring Tonic #2;  Come Hither and Who Needs Love were re-releases from last year (you can check my reviews of those if you'd like here).

Odette contains notes of clean sun dried linens, tuberose, ginger lily and white musk, and the overall impression certainly fits that description. There's something very crisp and clean about this scent, that coexists in balance with the lively notes of the white flowers, that are also included. I found that the "cleanliness" was more promiment in the soft bubbling scrub, whereas the pumpkin butter felt a little richer and warmer.

Spring Tonic #1 is a mix of Californian lemon, Mexican lime, parsley and dandelion greens. To me, this is all citrus-y freshness, the lemon and lime are way too intense to give room for anything else (perhaps the green notes underneath are just meant to add a natural boost of freshness, instead of anything else that would make it too sweet). Once again, true to its tradition of gourmand scents, Haus of Gloi has released a scent, reminiscing remarkably of freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Spring Tonic #2 is somewhat like Spring Tonic #1, minus the citrus. Its notes are fresh cucumber, parsley and dandelion greens. I joke about this often saying that it smells like a salad, but I do mean it in the best possible way: think fresh herbs, green grass and a light spring breeze and then you'll know what this one is all about. In my book, Britton (the creative force behind HoG) knocked it out of the park with this one, it's so fresh, yet so calm and earthy and you simply can't get yourself to stop bringing the jar under your nose.

As far as formulas go, the quality is still exceptional.
The HoG pumpkin butter is a top notch body butter and the bubbling scrub is still lovely and effective, although I did find it a bit frothier than previous collections (perhaps that's why it's now renamed as "soft bubbling scrub").
This time I tried a third formula, that of their whipped soaps (in both the Spring Tonic scents), and I was extremely impressed: the initial condensed mousse texture gets quickly dissolved when mixed with water and you get a lot of lather with a small amount. I'm usually a showergel kind of person (due to the ease of use; I love a good bar), so this was a pleasant surprise and one that will surely keep me coming back.

Of course, I know that it's a little cheeky of me to blog about a past LE collection, but I think that there might be some bits of it still available (along with the new Spring release that's calling my name). If you have yet to try this brand, I strongly suggest you do!

What spring scents have you come across recently in perfume and bodycare?
Which brand makes the best scents in your opinion?

What's your opinion?

  1. Hi Tina! I've heard so much good things about Haus of Gloi from your blog that you really make me want to try it out! :) Do you just buy them online or are you able to purchase these in store? I haven't seen this brand sold in store here so I'll have to check ebay I guess.
The way you describe the scents of these products makes them sound so exotic, unique and amazing.
The latest body butter I discovered that I really love for both quality of scent and texture is a brand called Pure Fiji. Dale got it for me at a Spa in Charlotte NC (USA) so I'm not sure where to repurchase it once I run out LOL I guess I could always check their website...hmmm...And I still love a number of scented body lotions from The Body Shop (even though we both agree the quality and texture is nothing to rave about). I think my favourite TBS lotion is the Vanilla Body Lotion. I stock up on it! :)
I haven't picked up any new perfumes for spring. The latest perfume that I got which I haven't had before is the Chloe one. My sisters really like the scent and they each have it as well, but it's not a scent that I will repurchase. My favourite HG perfumes have been the same for the past 2-3 years: Chanel Coco Mademoiselle, Thierry Mugler Womanity, Jimmy Choo and Armani Code. Lately Dale's been getting more compliments than me on his cologne of choice which is Chanel Bleu :)

    1. @Karen Law: Nope, these are available online only through their website (hausofgloi.com). Do give them a try when u run out of bodycare/bathing stuff, I'd love to know what u think!
Ooooh, "Pure Fiji" sounds heavenly, is the scent as exotic as the name? You know you could go to another trip, just to stock up, hahahahaha!!! ;)
And I agree with you on the TBS scents, though I think that the body lotion formula is tons better than the body butter one!!!
My mom likes the Chloe perfume (I always want sth a little spicier), did you hear that they're coming out with a new version this spring?
So, you like the classics then! ;) Can't blame you (Coco Mademoiselle is a bit of a staple)! And Chanel Bleu is a hit when it comes to guys' perfumes? I should check it out, doubt I've smelled that one before! :)

    2. Thanks for letting me know that you only get the products directly online through their website! I will definitely remember the brand when I finish my skincare products - we seem to have really similar tastes when it comes to the quality of skincare and I know how much you've raved about Haus of Gloi :)
I didn't know the Chloe perfume has a new Spring edition. I'll have to check it out and see if I like it any better :) Yes definitely check out the Chanel perfume counter and let me know what you think of the Blue for men and the Coco Mademoiselle...they're my favourites for me and Dale xx

  2. I am seriously tempted to make my first order from Haus of Gloi, cause I've been reading your rave reviews!!! It looks sooo soo good!

I am a HUGE fan of the Thierry Muggler perfumes! They seem like they've been put such thought into them! Dior makes wonderful perfumes as well. And Nina Ricci should pretty much close my top 3 perfume designers!! :) xx

    1. @fashion written with a lipstick: It's a great brand and very affordable, you can get a small variety of scents without spending a huge amount of money!!!
I can see you lean more towards sweeter scents, yes? I love Dior perfumes (they seem to have something that caters to every taste), but I can't deal with how "loud" Thierry Mugler perfumes can be!
      Thanks for sharing doll!!! xxx
