Molten Metals on your tips: Barry M Instant Nail Effects Foil

The metallic nail trend is hardly new: ever since Minx nails and nail wraps went viral, gold and silver tips often pop up in magazine editorials, as well as in plenty of fashion blogs (especially around fashion week season).

Now, don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the look of the original and I would love to try it, but the wrap process with the blow-dryer etc doesn't exactly scream "easy" to me!
Naturally, the lazy have to resort to another way: meet Barry M's "Instant Nail Effects Foil" nail polishes!

Don't they look just like bottles of enamel paint to you? Because that's exactly what they remind me of (and call me crazy, but I think they smell a bit like it too)! Let's take a closer look:

- 320 is the gold one. It's not a very bright yellow gold, in fact it has more of an olive undertone in my eyes, something which compliments my skintone a lot more (yellowy golds can make my hands look pale and sallow).

- 319 is the silver one. This is more of a true silver, though under some lights, it might appear to have a blue-ish undertone. Once again, a great match for my skintone!

Both of these reach full opacity after two coats, however if you were in a hurry, one would still do the job. The application is easy and the formula is pretty much exactly like enamel paint (I know I'm running out of references here, but they really do make me feel like I'm building a model). One thing I would say however, is that you do need a very shiny top coat to do them proper justice: while their metallic effect is reflective and shiny on its own, the finish is not exactly glossy if that makes sense. The top coat would also delay the inevitable (and fairly quick) chipping - though I think that you can't avoid this in these types of formulas.

All in all a great range (a purple shade completes the line) for just 4 pounds. Definitely worth looking into if you're looking for a metallic nail polish to wear on its own or to use for stamping or nail art purposes in general.

Have you tried metallic nails? What brand do you like the best? :)

What's your opinion?

  1. Love them both, they look fabulous. I regret not picking them up now that I see them worn.
My favourite metallics are the Face of Australia Molten Metallics.

    1. @Cel: Thank you for the recommendation, those do look really nice, and they seem to have a much better color range than Barry M! Just out of curiosity, have you shopped from the site that sells them (fashionaddict.com.au)? Do u know if shipping is reasonable?
      xx

    2. Ahhh tbh I got them from a friend during a swap so I am not really sure about the fashionaddict site. I have shopped from a couple other Australian e-shops though and shipping was reasonable.

  3. Love the looks of them both! Why can't we find such innovative nail polishes from greek brands? They would sell like hot cakes, that's for sure...

    1. @Evi: Yeah, not just innovativity, but also good copies is another thing we lack in.. Though Seventeen did a nice try with their crackles! Who knows, maybe in the future..

  5. Ooo I love your Barry M gold and silver nail paints! I actually don't have many gold or silver nail polishes now that I think about it. For a while I was thinking of getting the old China Glaze Khrome or Millenium metallic polishes.
