A 2-in-1 body scrub? Meet Sephora Express Body Scrub & Mask!

Up until recently, I believed that exfoliants could only exist in one of two categories: manual or chemical (and never the twain shall meet, so to speak). It had never occured to me that a scrub could be both - or, rather, I had never come across one before I saw the Sephora Express Body Scrub & Mask during one of my Sephora trips, and which I'll be reviewing for you today.

According to the instructions, this product can be either used as a regular scrub or as a mask that you leave on for just 1 minute (!), before you rinse it off. To be honest, I did both: I applied the white thick paste on my skin (a bonus that guarantees that the product actually sticks to the skin instead of the bathtub), massaged it in like a regular scrub, and left it on for another couple of minutes, before easily washing it off. The results? Lightly scented (think baby powder), softer skin!

By now, I'm sure you're all wondering: what's the idea behind this product and why does it claim to be both a scrub and a mask?

Well, as odd and gimmicky as that sounds at first, you'll see that the ingredients back its claims: it contains grounded apricot seeds along with papain, a papaya enzyme, famous for its gentle peeling properties. What I personally found even more interesting, was that it also contains kaolin: a clay mineral (often found in cleansing masks for oily or acne-prone skin), that aids the exfoliation process and leaves the skin feeling super clean (full ingredients' list below).

As you can see, it's not really a nourishing product for the skin, and the ingredients above are almost exclusively synthetic, but that's my only gripe with it: I found it does a lovely job of removing the dead and flaky bits, without any irritation or dryness, a pleasant surprise, since I didn't expect the ingredients to be all that friendly for my dry and sensitive skin.

All in all, if you're looking for a gentle, yet effective body scrub, then you may wanna give this one a go. I'm not 100% sure how this would perform during the summer, when the sweat and sun exposure make us all... shed more than usual, but, for the time being, I'm covered. If only the ingredients were a bit more on the natural side...! *sigh*

Have you tried this body scrub, or any other 2-in-1 exfoliators?

What's your opinion?
