Haus of Gloi Yule and Reverie 2013!

If you've been around over the past couple of years, then chances are you've picked up on my love for Haus of Gloi products: the inspired scents and the great-quality textures always make me go back for more!

Now, I'll admit I completely missed their Autumn collection, as I've been trying to make a dent in my bodycare stash, but the Yule and Reverie releases for the holiday 2013 season, lured me in 100%. Again. Truth be told, I needed some body scrubs, and to stock up on some Snow Wolf Pumpkin Butter, but without realising it, my cart went way beyond that (not that I'm complaining, hey)! Complete haulage as follows:

Rosy Cheeked Soft Bubbling Scrub. The scent is described as: "Pink grapefruit, fir needles, juniper berries, rosemary, a sprig of parsley and bright winter lilies". To me this is absolute pink grapefruit galore! A very (very very) fresh scent that only leans on the herbal side after you've rubbed it in. Fans of the Spring Tonic scents would appreciate this, fo sho!

Sweet Potato Treat Whipped Soap. It's described as: "The epitome of holiday comfort food: Sweet potatoes with mild spices, butter and brown sugar baked off with marshmallows". Now this is definitely a sweet gourmand scent, but I personally found it a little overpowering, same as I find the kitchen after a whole afternoon of baking cookies - perhaps a little stuffy? Glad I gave this scent a go, especially in the soap version, which doesn't linger on my skin for that long.

Wintervale Pumpkin Butter. Described as "Snow covered blue spruce boughs, frozen woods, crystalline sugared violets and sharp wintery air, all wrapped around a minty mug of hot cocoa", this is by far the most difficult one to describe! To me, it smells like a well executed perfume or a high-quality soap or candle. I'd say this is a crowd-pleaser, a safe bet for everyone.

Snow Wolf Pumpkin Butter. This babe is described as "Bristling and prowling, lonesome and haunting. Three howling firs, white frankincense, vanilla bean husk, tainted by droplets of blood cedar" and it has my heart since I first tried it a couple of years ago! Those that enjoy fir and pine scents or spicy woodsy/alpine concoctions (or both) need this one in their lives!

Plotter's Breakfast Soft Bubbling Scrub. This is described as: "Oatey porridge, stove smoke, kindling wood, a hint of gunpowder and pinch of sweet pipe tobacco". As you can imagine, this would fit an older gentleman to a T, but for my taste, it's, well, too ...oatey. I'll give it one thing, though: it's the quirkiest of them all (always a good thing), a scent that jumped right out of a russian classic (novel, not cocktail).

Three Treasures Sugar Exfoliant. This scent is described as: "Sacred gifts of frankincense, myrrh and gold. Smoldering with warmth and brightened with a touch of mandarin rind" and it translates exactly as it sounds! The myrrh and frankincense provide the warm and spicy oriental feel, but there's definitely some freshness into the mix. Very well balanced and 100% christmassy!

I completely skipped on Fancy Bread and Eggnoggin this time (you can, however read my review on Eggnoggin here).

As for the Winter Reverie release, I picked up two things:

Hot Cocoa Whipped Cream Soap, described as "A simple cup of hot cocoa with a few mostly melted marshmallows", which smells exactly like a comforting cup of sweet hot chocolate, and

Cozy Sweater Whipped Cream Soap, described as "Pale skin musk, faded perfume, Egyptian amber, softly burning nag champa incense and a fine aged vanilla". I'd like to think of this as the perfume baby of Belle D'Opium and White Musk, as in an elegant and feminine scent, with a hint of an oriental essence. Needless to say, if you've ever worn any of those perfumes, you'd really enjoy this!

Lengthy post, I know, but these were pretty big releases, and looking back at my picks, I think I missed out on a few things, the Butterbombs in particular! As for my picks, apart from Snow Wolf, I really liked Three Treasures, Hot Cocoa, Cozy Sweater and Wintervale. Now, from what I understand, the Yule release is on it's way out, so if any of these scents tickled your fancy, do give them a try asap!
