Pai First Impressions: Organic Skin Care Sampling Set!

Somewhere along my extended quest to finally discover the skincare routine that best works for me, I came across Pai.

Now, Pai, as many of you would already know, is not a new kid on the block: it's a brand that's been around for a while now and has managed to gain a bit of a cult following thanks to its certified organic, vegan and cruelty-free skincare products.

And while I do majorly respect any brand that goes the proper natural route (nasty chemicals be gone!), what intrigued me the most was that Pai caters mainly to sensitive skin (I figured, I actually stood a chance with this brand, what the hell!). That and the fact that a huge number of nourishing plant oils go into their products, which, by the way, are all pretty decently priced.

To cut a long story short, I decided to get the trial pack first and see how I felt about the brand:

The Organic Skin Care Sampling Set came with a cleanser, an exfoliator, four moisturisers (though as of recently, one of them has been replaced with another product, I'll explain below) and a muslin cloth.

- The Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser, suitable for all skin types, is a non-foaming creamy cleanser that contains no detergents: it's basically plant oils that are doing the dirty work for you! I enjoyed this one for its extremely gentle and moisturising consistency, however I don't feel that it would be my personal top choice for makeup removing purposes (even with double cleansing). That said, it would make an excellent morning cleanser, and once I've made a dent in my cleansing collection, I'd definitely consider getting.

- The Kukui & Jojoba Bead Skin Brightening Exfoliator was a bit of a revelation: by far the most gentle bead exfoliator I've tried! It's really easy to apply thanks to its runny, gel-like formula and its perfectly spherical jojoba wax beads (other brands: take freakin note!) guarantee zero irritation! I literally couldn't believe my eyes: I'd rub and rub and rub some more and my skin did not go red at any point! Now, this unfortunately is on the pricier side for a bead exfoliator, but I'm prepared to take the plunge!

- The Chamomile & Rosehip Day Cream is aimed at hypersensitive skin that's prone to redness. This one stood out to me from the bunch and I've since repurchased. It's a very moisturising and soothing cream that features apricot kernel oil as a main ingredient; apricot kernel oil has a high concentration of Vitamin E, and I've been looking for a natural moisturiser with Vitamin E for ages now. On top of that, the rosehip oil that it contains, is a natural source of Vitamin A, essentially working as a very mild natural retinoid. Thanks to this one, I think my search is finally over!

- The Avocado & Jojoba Day Cream, aimed at dry and normal skintypes, is a slightly more emolient version of the Chamomile & Rosehip one (at least it felt like that on my skin), but it's very similar in its texture and its moisturising properties. Now, for some reason, this made my skin feel "hot" after I applied it, so, unfortunately, it was an obvious no-go for me.

- The Macadamia & Rose Day Cream (rubbed off in the picture above) that I received in my trial kit was the one I enjoyed the least. And despite it being aimed at drier skintypes (in theory, it should have worked for me), it was very thick and not as easy to apply. This is now called the Echium & Macadamia Replenishing Day Cream, but with the same formula and it's aimed at dry and ageing skin. Now, this definitely didn't wow me, but the less "oily" feeling makes me think it would work better during the summer months or for someone with combination skin.

- Last, but not least, the Geranium & Thistle Day Cream, is suited for combination skintypes and was another hit for me: hydrating, calming, and easy to apply. Again, this applies and feels very close to the Chamomile & Rosehip cream, it's just that I prefer the ingredients of the latter for my skin's needs.

If you're looking for all-natural skincare and/or have sensitive skin, I'd strongly suggest you give this trial pack a go: the thought that has gone into these products is unlike anything I've seen. I'd even recommend this kit for those with acne-prone skin, like myself: despite the rich plant oils in the formulas, I didn't experience any breakouts. The formulas are rich and buttery, the scents are luxurious and calming and unlike most skincare products in the market, they don't just make your skin look good, they feed it from within. I can only say one more thing: my love for Pai is only now just developing!
