Ripped: check!

So, I 'm sure you 've all noticed by now how big the "ripped denim" trend is among celebrities. It's definitely not the newest trend out there, as people have been ripping and customising their jeans for decades now, but it seems that it 's made a comeback especially after the Maison Martin Margiela S/S 08 and the Balmain S/S 09 shows.

However, it looks like nowadays the simple slit across the knee of a light coloured pair is somewhat outdated, so, after a bit of googling, I present you a few more options:

1. The "wounded knee" category:

2. The "I didn't do it myself - they 're my boyfriend's" category:

3. The "Playing Peek-a-Boo" category:

4. The most wearable way:

5. The "I 'm under serious distress" category:

6. The black pairs:

7. The white pairs:

8. The "I had a date with Edward. Not Cullen; Scissorhands" category:

9. The tied and dyed category:

Personally, I 've already fallen for the trend (twice!) and quite like it really, they are a nice change from the dark skinny jeans from 2-3 years ago...

What do you think of distressed and torn jeans in general? Would you wear them/ buy them/ make a pair of your own?

What's your opinion?

  1. Love/hate relationship for me.

Love the way they look sometimes, hate the way I would probably rip them further while wearing them rendering the jeans unwearable!!

Plus I do not know if I want to spend $$ on ripped jeans haha.

  2. you know my answer for this.. haha... i'd totally get a pair! i love them. i have some nice distressed pairs from a few years ago but they're bootcut. i neeeed a skinny pair!
PS: i love the names you picked for your categories :)

  5. I don't mind the trend, but would opt for a DIY verison or let the jeans rip naturally. I just don't see a point in buying something pre-ripped or pre-worn... it's nicer if there's a story behind how the jeans got that way, you know? I have a few pairs and all have gotten their rips after lots of wear and tear. Great post! I love the way you classified the different types of ripped jeans :)

  6. @Sarah: Yes, unfortunately the further ripping is an issue with these jeans...! However, if you wouldn't want to handwash them, there's another trick you can do: turn them inside out and put them in a pillow case b4 choosing the "gentle wash" cycle... ;)

As far as $$, yes, I 've heard that a lot lately, ppl don't seem to want to buy sth already torn...!!! :PPP

  9. @Ashley: There is sth so cool and sexy about the way Erin wears them, but to be honest I don't think I 'd be able to pull that off... :) I 'd love to see how you customised your pair! ;)

  10. @The Haute-Shopper: Thank you dear! :) Yes, I agree with you, it's better if the wear reflects how well-loved the jeans are, but that requires a bit of patience... I would have tried to make a pair of my own, but I 'm so afraid I 'd ruin them....:PPP

    Thx for stopping by! :)
