New Glosses In Town: Maybelline Color Elixir!

Despite owning a hefty amount of lipstick, I'll always be partial to a good lipgloss: I just can't resist the overall "juicy" effect they provide the lips with!

So, when I first heard about the Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Glosses (flipping through some US magazine no doubt), I was immediately intrigued! And with the help of ebay (since these have not been launched in Greece and there's still no word if that's even happening at all), I was thankfully able to snag a couple of shades: 080 Captivating Carnation and 045 Amethyst Potion.

080 Captivating Carnation is a well executed midtone pink, that doesn't lean too warm or too cool in my opinion, while 045 Amethyst Potion is a plum purple. And aside from their lovely colors, it's the texture of these lipglosses that won me over: light, smooth, not sticky at all and they leave your lips with a cushiony soft feel to them. The finish is also mega glossy without any added shimmer (though I believe there is at least one shade with shimmer in the range). As for the coverage, there is a level of sheerness to them (my swatches have captured this), but to be fair, you have to come pretty close to notice: for the most part these are quite pigmented lipglosses, even more so with a second layer.

Time for some obligatory lip swatches:

Hopefully they give you a decent idea of what the shades look like - the finish not so much, as they appear a little sheerer than they actually are.

I'd definitely recommend checking these out! As for me, I'm already coveting another three shades: an orange (which is the wrongest color on the plant for me, but I might as well try it in this texture), a nude and a brighter purple (apologies YSL Terriblement Fuchsia, I think I'll go for Maybelline this time around...)!

Have you tried these lipglosses?
What's your favorite drugstore lipgloss of all time?

What's your opinion?

  1. they look quite nice, I will definitely check them if I came in Switzerland but I am not so intrigued to order them online as I am not a huge fan of glossy lips :) Thanks for the review and swatches honey!

    1. @smugnificent: You're welcome! Btw, glad your comment went through, blogger was being a bitch to me the other day! And yes, even if you don't wear lipgloss that often, these are better than some higher end ones and a lot more affordable, so it's worth checking them out!

  2. The word is in unfortunately...!I was told that they wouldn't launch, or at least not this year. It is such a shame. The sales would go through the roof. Such an amazing product.

  3. Also, I should have picked up captivating carnation. I don't know why I hesitated. Stupid US drugstores with no testers...!grrrr

    1. @Irene Blushing Loves: First things first: Pai! Though I'm afraid I've been practically pushing Pai on you for ages now and who knows if you'll enjoy it as much as I do (you do have better skin anyways)!!! Onto the lipglosses: yes, the packaging resembles lipsticks, super sleek! Ha, if I pick some more, I'll let you know! ;)
