Unexpected white...!

By Tina A. - September 14, 2009

So, before trying out the new fall colours from O.P.I. (expect a lot of España loveliness soon) and Essie, and after taking off the well loved Metro Chic, I did something quite unexpected:

I dug out my cheapie white nail polish!!!

It's been years since I 've last painted my nails white and the nail polish I have is the cheapie type you get at your usual no-brand nail polish stand (assuming everyone has one) and, yes, the application is messy, as you can see, but I still felt compelled to give it a try!

So, what do you think? Would you or do you wear a stark white nail polish every now and then?

And if you do, do you have any recommendations? :)

  1. I rarely wear white nail polish and am horrible at painting my own nails! When I feel like wearing a light color I go for light blue, lavender, or grey. I know that sounds weird but they're really pretty on!

i prefer short nails if they have colors!!! in french manicure i prefer long but not very long!!!
i you wanna keep this put some black with a nailpolish which is only for drawing and make it like french manicure but black !! or put a shape or a black line only in one nail! in nails i prefer simplicity ! i had my nails yesterday black ! what do you think should i keep them? they are very rocking !!!

  7. I personally love white nails, but only on short and manicured nails like yours. Anything else I feel looks a bit cheap, but if you do it right (like you are in that picture) I think it can be very chic :)

  10. @Julia: I know what you mean, personally (being right-handed), I can never get my right hand nails to look as pretty as the ones on the left!

Those colours you mentioned are not weird at all, in fact they can be really pretty! :)

  12. @UnicornSmile: Ah, yes, this was a huge trend some years ago, I remember when I first got a white nail polish, I thought it was the coolst colour, ever!!! :)

Works well however, especially inbetween dark colours..! :)

Thanks for the sweet comment! :)

  13. @Mairyliscious: A french manicure with black tips instead of white is classic in my opinion, however a white nail polish with black tips would look too harsh...

Black nails are always "in"... How about adding a bit of glitter, like THIS ? ;)

  14. @Stefanie: Funky indeed! In fact they would be great for a 60's inspired outfit, or themed party, what do you think?

With an Illamasqua pale barbie pink lipstick...? ;)

  15. @Tali: Yes!!! Exactly! :)))

And even though my (Xen) tan is fading, it still works! I 'm sure it would look hot on you too! ;)

Tali girl, where are you? Drink lots of coffee and hydrate! :))) Oh, and some greasy food to help too! Lol! :))) We need you back in business!

  16. @Bonnie: Thank you love! :)

Yes, you are right, long nails would look weird with a white nail polish, but then again really long nails look weird with most colours I think... !

    Lots of love!

And, you 're right, they 're surprisingly easy to wear!
Black vampy nails are always hot, but a splash of white is in order every now and then... :)

  19. I have seen this trend in some magazines. I must admit I only use white on my french manis but I'm starting to consider using it on my entire nail because it looks cool and very wearable :)

  22. @Pinklumpysugar: Well, it's definitely not THE hottest trend there is, but it seems it's not totally outdated in the last years...! ;)

Hope you like it when you try it on! ;)

  37. White nails were so "fetch" in high school, I remember. I kind of miss them now. I think it's a classic forever though. :)

I really hope The Beautiful Life continues forward, I need plenty of guilty pleasure to watch this Fall <3

Thanks for the sweet comments, always, darling!

  39. @Fashion Chalet: Omg, I haven't heard "fetch" in a while, you totally reminded me of Mean Girls! :)))

I think it is a shade that it's always "there" too, not too trendy, but definitely not completely outdated... ;)

Ah, excited about the next episode, couple of days left! ;)

    *Hugs* Erika!
